Are you feeling hopeless, isolated and not your usual self? Do you feel alone and as if no one really “sees” you? Do you feel worthless or unlovable? Do you find yourself medicating your feelings with food and/or alcohol or drugs? Do you feel like a burden or that if others knew the ‘real’ you that they would leave you?
Depression can feel like you are wearing a too heavy blanket everywhere or like falling into a deep dark hole that you feel unable to climb out of. You may feel low but still go to work or school, participate in activities but not with the level of interest or zest you had before. You may lack energy and have some difficulty with daily tasks. Or you may skip work, or go but have trouble finishing projects or concentrating, feel low most of the time, and not find pleasure in any of the activities you previously did.
I want you to know that your struggle does not own you and that it is possible to finally lighten this load and feel like yourself again. During our time together, we will focus on helping you better understand and deal with the symptoms you are experiencing. You will have an opportunity to explore the root of your depression and shift old thinking patterns and perceptions of yourself and the world around you that are contributing to your depression.
“Only when we are brave enough to explore the darkness will we discover the infinite power of our light”
– Brené Brown
